Fall Sunset

I finished this painting this weekend. I titled it "Fall Sunset". It is small (8"x10") but, I think it is very dramatic. I wanted to capture the intensity of the sun as it passes behind a line of trees. Darkness comes earlier in the fall as the nights get a little chilly.

Suddenly They Appear

This painting is 12"x24" - a different format for me. I wanted the expansiveness of the sky to add to the mysterious mood of early evening. The hay bales are lined up as if laying out a secret message for aliens. When it is haying time in Ulster County you might drive by an field in the morning and when you return to  the same field in the evening it will be filled with hay bales. Two days later, they are gone! This field is in New Paltz. I've painted it before, and I will paint it again.

Late Fall

My most recent work is a painting of a field seen in late fall when the corn is cut and snow on the ground from occasional light dustings stick around. It is a time of dramatic skies.

Newest Painting

This is my newest painting. It took me quite a while before I was able to get the mist the way I wanted it. The location for this painting is Mill Dam Road in Stone Ridge, New York. I have painted the field before in late winter with snow on the ground. This scene is from earlier in the winter when the ground and air are not both cold and moisture becomes mist.

Painting For ASK "Square Deal" Show

I painted this study for the ASK "Square Deal" show in which member artists donate a painting that will sell for $50 as a fund raiser. I call this "Three Barns" and I will make a larger version soon. Paintings measure 8"x8". At $50 these small works of are are a steal.

Mill Dam Road at Dusk

I go to this spot in Stone Ridge, NY every time the weather does something unique. I am going to paint this little "roll" of hills in the spring, too. In this painting the fields are seen covered in a deep snow just before the light goes fully behind the trees.

Winter Corn Field

My newest paint, titled Winter Corn Field, is of a local farm field after the first snow this winter. The corn stalks are still visible above the snow and the sky is full of clouds.

Roly Cow Show at Keegan Ales

Here are some installation pictures of my solo show at Keegan Ales in Kingston, NY on view February and March 2011. The show features work I did a few years ago and is called Roly Cow because there is at least one cow in each painting.

Footsteps In The Snow

I finally finished this landscape. More and more I am becoming intrigued by the dramatic effect of light on snow in the early or late hours of the day. I titled this "Footsteps In The Snow" because there are faint tracks that can be discovered in the lower right-hand side of the painting. In some ways this scene reminds me of Robert Frost.
