Every winter, Mohonk Mountain House, a resort outside of New Paltz, boards their horses at this farm in the valley near me. It is a real cozy winter site to see horses wandering in the snow.

Summer Hay Field

Hay bales pop-up all over the Hudson Valley in mid-summer.
This is a field just outside the town of New Paltz in Ulster County, New York.

Snow In The Valley

Fall is in the air and I want to paint snow! I love the way light plays off of snow in the bright sun. I have painted this farm before. The previous painting had horses in it and it was later in the day. This scene shows the best that Ulster County has to offer - open spaces and the Catskill Mountains not too far away.

Big Display

This is a small painting (8" X 10") but, it is about a big display! The subject is simple because I was working mostly, to get the cloud to glow in the sky above the darkening horizon.
Making an object seem to be emitting light is a challenge well worth the effort. There are no living beings in this scene, making the cloud seem to come alive.

Mid-Summer Haying in New Paltz

One evening this summer I drove past this farm in New Paltz and watched them haying a field. It was overcast and the tractors were kicking up a lot of dust. I liked the way the fading light was caught by the grasses on the mound of earth in the foreground.

Winter Stream - My new painting

I really like painting winter scenes. I am particularly drawn to snow and ice melting on a small pond or stream. This is a local brook I saw one morning at the end of last winter. It looks like a pond because some beavers made a dam down stream that has backed up the water.

Landscapes on View at The Art Society of Kingston

Tim and I are in a show at ASK this month titled That Great Canvas: The Sky. Our four paintings surround the large landscape by another artist. Tim's work is the one on the bottom left.

New Painting - Midnight Snow

I struggled with this one. I wanted to paint the effects on snow of a moon
I saw when I was traveling back from Kingston one late night.

Plains Road Cows

I want this painting to convey the feeling one gets in early winter after the leaves have fallen and before the snow starts to come down. The cows probably do not notice the changing weather, but you would.

New Art International

Many of my paintings are featured in this year's edition of New Art International, available soon at Barnes & Noble and Border Books in hard or soft cover. There is a long article about me, too.
New Art International publishes the work by almost 100 artists from all over the world. The accompanying biographies highlight the different backgrounds and motivations of artists working today. The subjects and styles of the artists vary. It is exciting to be a part of this annual project.
