Drawings at ASK

The Art Society of Kingston (ASK) December show features small works by ASK members. All pieces measure no greater than twelve inches in any direction. I submitted four small drawings for the show that I did a number of years ago. The drawing shown here was done while I was teaching in Edinburgh, Scotland as a Fulbright Scholar in 1980. It is rendered in pencil on paper and measures ten centimeters square. It is a picture of my Christmas tree seen through the window of an apartment I was renting on Buchanan Street. The building was old and the stone construction was suffering from what the locals called rising damp. It is a condition where water begins to seep into the building stones. It works its way up the wall making the interior rooms damp. Moisture can be seen on the window glass diffusing the tree lights.
